About Sardinia
Situated in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, Sardinia,
with its app. 1,800 km of coastline, is one of the most popular
destinations for people who love aquatic sports and seaside
holidays. The sea around this large Mediterranean Island (second
only to Sicily in size among all Mediterranean Islands) is
among the most beautiful and transparent in the world.
D.H. Lawrence in his famous book "Sea and Sardinia"
wrote that Sardinia was a land like no other. Sardinia is
also a land rich of history an culture witnesses. The numerous "nuraghi" which are spread all over the island,
occupy a very relevant place among the archaeological sites
that have been left in the Western Mediterranean basin by
the various cultures which have, over the centuries, lived
in these lands. These majestic buildings have a prominent
role in the Sardinian landscape so much so that they remain
stamped on the visitors' mind as a characteristic image of
this mysterious and extraordinary land and are a symbol of
a whole population.

About Alghero
Alghero gets its name from the abundance of seaweed (alghe)
in its surrounding waters. It was known as Algarium in the
Middle Ages and Al Alguer and Barcelloneta under Spanish rule.
It is an ancient feudal territory of the Genoese, colonised
towards the middle of the 14th century by the Spanish Catalans.
Today, after more than six centuries, the town remains proud
of the architecture, folklore and language of its Catalan
heritage. In effect the walled "old town" of Alghero
has remained virtually unchanged since the time of Catalan
rule and its historical links with Catalan Spain are very
much in evidence.
The old centre is the real attraction of Alghero and it can
easily be explored on foot.
